Hunch is built to know as little about you as possible. Here is exactly what we do and don’t do, on this website and in the Hunch extension.
What Hunch does NOT do
No message storage. We don’t keep the messages you read or paste. No accounts. There’s no login, and we don’t build a profile of you. No cross-web tracking, Hunch doesn’t follow you around the web. No selling or sharing your data, ever. And no tracking cookies or third-party analytics on this website.
Detection runs on your device
Scam detection happens locally, in your browser on this site, and inside the extension. The content of your messages is not uploaded and not stored. Detection runs 100% locally on your device, with only the two narrow exceptions listed next.
The only two exceptions
(a) A shortened link may be sent to our server to resolve where it really leads, the link only, never the message text. (b) The extension’s optional AI checks send up to 300 characters of one message for a single analysis, then discard it, when you tap “Explain”, and on LinkedIn automatically for the first-message check (on by default, off in Settings). The website checker never uses AI. Nothing is stored or logged; the server keeps only a short one-way hash prefix and a length for abuse control, never the text.
How this site’s checker handles your message
When you paste a message into the checker on this site, it is analyzed in your browser. Detection runs 100% locally on your device. That is why it also works for a text on your phone. Share-cards are generated on your device too, with personal details masked before any image is made.
Not collected
No names, addresses, emails, phone numbers, ID or card numbers, passwords, location, or browsing history are collected or sold. Ever.
Honest limits
Hunch catches a lot, but not everything, and no warning is not a guarantee a message is safe. Always verify unexpected requests independently.
